HOW TO TIE YOUR TIE
It may not be rocket science, but it is important to get it right!
There are many types of knots suitable for different shirts, ties and occasions.
Here you will find easy to follow instructions and diagrams to help you tie a perfect knot in your beautiful new tie.
Four-in-Hand Knot Windsor Knot Half Windsor Knot Pratt Knot Bow Tie
THE FOUR-IN-HAND KNOT
This is a narrow, discreet knot suitable for most occasions. It looks good on shirts with button down or narrow collars.

- Place the tie around the collar with the RIGHT side showing(so the seams and label are NOT visible).
- Start with the WIDE end about 12" or 30cms longer than the NARROW end.
-
Take the WIDE end behind the NARROW end and loop back over the front.
-
Put the WIDE end through the back of the large loop which is around the neck and push the same WIDE end through the smaller loop in the front and pull it through carefully.
-
Pull the WIDE end until the shape of the knot is what you want and pull the NARROW end carefully to move the knot closer to your collar.
- Make small adjustments until you are happy with the knot.
To take the tie off:
THE WINDSOR KNOT
This is a thicker, wider knot which is good for occasions when you need to show an air of confidence - interviews, presentations etc. It is suited to wide collar shirts, but not very thick ties as this wil make the knot too large.

-
Place the tie around the collar with the RIGHT side showing(so the seams and label are NOT visible).
-
Start with the WIDE end about 12" or 30cms longer than the NARROW end and pass the WIDE end across the front of the NARROW end.
-
Put the WIDE end through the back of the loop around your neck.
-
Take the WIDE end behind the NARROW end and up through the loop arond your neck again.
-
Take the WIDE end over in front of the NARROW end and through the loop around your neck and push through the smaller loop around the tie - pull through carefully.
To take the tie off:
THE HALF WINDSOR KNOT
This knot is more businss-like than the Four-in-Hand Knot, but less cumbersome than the Windsor Knot. It can be worn with just about any shirt.

-

-
Bring the WIDE end down through the knot in front and carefully tighten drawing it up to the collar.
- Make small adjustments until you are happy with the knot.
THE PRATT KNOT
This is a neat knot somewhere in size between the Four-in-Hand and the Half Windsor. It looks good worn with most shirt styles and is suiable for any occasion mking it a really worthwhile knot to learn.

-
Place the tie around the collar the WRONG side showing(so the seams and label ARE visible).

THE BOW TIE
The Bow Tie is suitable for important occasions like dinner dances, balls, weddings etc. It's not something most of us do every day so nedds more practice than a neck-tie - Don't leave it until the big day.

-
Start with one end about 1.5" longer then the other.
-
Cross the longer end over the shorter end and pass up through the loop, forming a simple knot.
-
Form the front loop of the bow by doubling up the hanging end across the collar points.
-
Drop the other end down over the front.
-
Form a new loop with the hanging end the same as in step 3 but in the oppoite direction.
-
Position the new loop behind the front loop facing the opposite direction.
-
Pinch the loops together with your thumb and push the second loop into the knot behind the front loop. The tip of your finger will be in position to push the end of this loop into the hole behind the front loop.
